Fred Carter played six seasons for the Philadelphia 76ers, and scored 7,673 points for the team. But he is likely most famous as he played on and became the MVP of the worst team in NBA history- the 9 win 73 loss Philadelphia 76ers team of 1972-73.
He was not pleased with the 76ers in 2014, so there is no reason to believe he is any more satisfied with this season.
“There’s a difference in terms of what transpired when I was playing as opposed to what’s going on now,” said Carter, a native Philadelphian who now lives in Plymouth Meeting. “When I was playing was not intentionally done. For some reason management thought that they had put together a good team that could win games. Unfortunately that was not the case. In the case of the Sixers, this is all by design from Day One.”
He averaged 20 points per game in that horrid 1972-1973 season, and 18.8 PPG for his Sixer career.
He would return to coach the Sixers for the 1992 to mid 1994 seasons.
