The Philadelphia 76ers have had a lot of bad losses this season, but have lately shown that they can be good at bouncing back from tough losses.

The Philadelphia 76ers have lost–up to this point–39 games this season. They’ve won just once over the Eastern Conference so far this year, and have been the victims of several blowout losses that were simply hard to watch for fans of both teams. But above all, the Sixers have shown on multiple occasions that they are great at bouncing back from devastating losses.

Every win this year has been preceded by a loss. That is to say that the Sixers have yet to have a winning streak of more than just one game, which has been unfortunate. But after going 4-6 in their last 10 games, it’s clear that that second win in a row will be coming soon. 4-6 in the last 10 certainly doesn’t look good by a league standard, but for the Sixers, a team that went on 18 and 12 losses in a row at two points this season, it’s great.

Several times Philly has lost in blowout fashion. Several times they’ve played ugly games. But there’s been several occasions, especially lately, that the team has done well with forgetting the past and moving onto the next game.

On December 23rd, the Sixers lost to the Milwaukee Bucks by 13 points, in a game that several thought the Sixers should have been able to handle to a point. Right before that game they lost by 14 to the Memphis Grizzlies. Following these tough losses, they came back and beat the Phoenix Suns, with the help of a new face in Ish Smith on their team.

Later, the Sixers would fall embarrassingly, but not surprisingly, to the Los Angeles Clippers, losing by 31 points after falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in the same arena just a night before. They came back to life when they beat the Timberwolves by 10 points in the following game.

Then came a tough bunch of games in January. Going up against the Chicago Bulls, the Sixers lost in overtime, in a game they failed to close out. They bounced back with a win the next game. They then fell to the New York Knicks in double overtime coming back on the road to beat the Orlando Magic in their next game.

Lastly, they lost to the Boston Celtics embarrassingly on their own court, finishing the game 20 points behind Boston, but bounced back for a 10 point win over the Suns in their next game.

Head coach Brett Brown said, following the Celtics loss that he barely got any sleep after that loss. Point guard Ish Smith said he was up earlier than normal the following day, looking to get back to work to correct the team’s issues.

Smith said, “I had a nasty taste in my mouth about last night’s game. You just want to throw it up.”

And “throw it up” they have.

What we’ve seen is a lot of embarrassing losses, but an ability–that has gotten stronger as the season has progressed–to forget about the game before and move onto the next game quickly. We can only hope they snap out of their “win after a loss” mentality so that they can get a streak going at some point this season.
