Philadelphia 76ers Have Had Multiple First Round Draft Picks Before
By Bret Stuter
2007
(13) Thaddeus Young – Thad Young was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played for seven seasons before being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves by general manager Sam Hinkie. He currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets. The timing of Young’s arrival to the Sixers was unfortunate, as Philadelphia was stuck in a slow spiral downwards during his tenure with the team, despite his own individual heroics. While his career scoring is 13.9 points per game, his best year was his final season as a Philadelphia 76er, where he jumped up to 17.9 PPG. He was simply a good player on a poor baskeball team, whe Sam Hinkie eventually converted into a first round draft pick.
(21) Daequan Cook – The wing man (shooting guard/small forward) was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers and immediately traded to the Miami Heat with a 2009 second round pick for the Heat’s Ben Smith. Smith was selected by the Heat with their tenth pick. Cook has enjoyed a six year NBA career, with his first three years playing with the Heat. His is currently playing in the European league with Bennifica, Portugal.

(30) Petteri Koponen – On 28 June 2007 Koponen was taken 30th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He was the final first-round pick in the draft. Philadelphia then traded Koponen to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for their number 42 pick, Vanderbilt University swingman Derrick Byars. He has never played in the NBA, and his draft rights are currently held by the Dallas Mavericks.
