The Post Draft Grade
The Philadelphia 76ers enter the draft with back court needs as well as upgrading their long range shooting. The team addresses these needs in a big way.
In getting Brandon Ingram and Kris Dunn, the Philadelphia 76ers have paired up two of the most dynamic guards in this draft. Where Ingram will dominate the perimeter, Dunn will transition the ball and feed both Ingram and Jahlil Okafor. While T.J. McConnell is certainly capable of bench duty, he will be pressed by other newcomer Melo Trimble, who can slide to either guard position if the team wants to challenge small ball roster opponents.
While the team sorts through ranking Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor, and Joel Embiid in a center and power forward rotation, it’s unclear if the team will retain both Richaun Holmes and Carl Landry. Newcomer Dario Saric will most like by sent to the small forward position, which gives the team some vulnerability to a pure power forward. Wiltjer can fill those minutes, while being groomed for an ever increasing workload or even for a possible trade if he becomes a valued player in a crowded front court.

Despite the narrative for getting older, the primary objective for this team is to become better by becoming more cohesive. With the addition of Ingram, Dunn, Trimble and Wiltjer, that has been accomplished. Factor in the debut of Joel Embiid and Dario Saric, and you’ve truly added the equivalent of a new starting lineup to the Sixers in one year.
That’s the departing gift of Sam Hinkie.
