Isaiah Canaan is facing the perfect set up for a solid contribution in the 2016-2017 season

Isaiah Canaan is a polarizing figure on the Philadelphia 76ers. Some fans love him, some fans loathe him, and many fans fit into both categories on the same evening based on any given NBA game.  You see, Isaiah Canaan, affectionately nicknamed “Canaanball”, has a way of scoring treys in bunches.

And then again, sometimes he goes cold and it is demoralizing.  He’s tough to categorize.

Isaiah Canaan is otherwise very difficult to categorize as far as his ideal basketball role.  He stumped former 76ers president Sam Hinkie, who declared Isaiah Canaan to be the starting point guard.  Sam Hinkie seldom made mistakes, but that was a biggee.  But there were reasons for the error.

More from Free Agency

Hinkie wanted Canaan on the basketball court, or rather, his perimeter shooting on the basketball court.  Standing 6’0″ at his tallest, the only position for the just turned 25 year old is point guard.  But he does not distribute the ball well, and truly is not the game general despite his shorter stature.   He only lasted three weeks at the spot until head coach Brett Brown had seen enough and sent undrafted point guard T.J. McConnell to replace him in the starting line up.

Eventually, he would find his way coming off the bench as as shooting guard.   Now, that position was more attuned to his skill sets – which pretty much include perimeter shooting as the true attribute Canaan brings to a basketball court.  But on some occasions, it was enough to light up the score board and electrify the crowd.
