Our Co-Editor Josh Wilson wrote about Evan Fournier being a free agency option for the Sixers about a month ago, and I also think he could be a fantastic option for the Sixers. He’s not a big name like Bradley Beal, or Harrison Barnes, but realistically the Sixers don’t have much shot at players like that this offseason. There are too many teams with big money to spend that are much more appealing destinations than Philadelphia at this time.

More from The Sixer Sense

I have a feeling that the only way the Sixers are going to pry players away from their current/better teams this offseason is if they flash more dollar signs. Despite there being several franchises with a lot of cap room, no team is more equipped to overpay players this offseason than the Sixers.

Now that may sound like a bad thing when you first think about it, but it very well could be the deciding factor in the case of someone like Evan Fournier. He reportedly turned down a 4-year $32 million dollar offer 6 months ago claiming he wanted $10 million a year. I’m sure the Orlando Magic regrouped and are ready to satisfy that request…But are they willing to give him say, $13-15 million a year?

The Magic cleared out quite a bit of space by moving Tobias Harris and Channing Frye mid-season, but every team has their limits. The Sixers could blow Fournier away with an offer he can’t refuse and Orlando won’t match.

Fournier is a human version of the medieval trebuchet. Every field goal attempt that comes out of his hands seems to catapult towards the rim whether it’s from deep, or on a fierce drive to the basket. He has a beautiful high arcing shot that hits home often, and a plethora of other offensive tools that got him a career high 15.4 points per game this past season.

One of Evan’s best outings came back on March 15th against the Denver Nuggets when he dropped a 30-piece on them. You can Watch the highlights here.

Did I mention the fact that Evan was from France? Yes if you didn’t know simply by uttering his last name, he is indeed a Frenchman that has the same native language as Joel Embiid. I’m sure the two of them would get along swimmingly.
