Mario Chalmers

Position: PG

Height: 6-2

Weight: 190

Age: 30

In a very thin free agent point guard class, Chalmers arguably has the most playoff experience out of all of them.

As I’ve wrote in the previous slides, the Sixers are in need of a stop-gap point guard, and Chalmers, who’s coming off an injury could reestablish himself in Philadelphia.

Last year with the Memphis Grizzlies, Chalmers averaged 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

In the per 36 minutes stat, though, he averaged, 17.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

But the main concern with him is that he’s coming off a torn Achilles tendon injury at the age of 30.  Achilles injuries can be devestating to a point guard – whose court agility requires constant starts, stops, and pivots in moving the ball down the court.

The Sixers were in the market for numerous point guards during the trade deadline and the NBA Draft, and Chalmers could be a solid back-up plan until Colangelo figures out the long-term plans of the roster.

These are some of the names that will likely be connected to the Philadelphia 76ers during the shakeout of this year’s free agency. While none trigger visions of playoff success just yet, the team will be much improved this year.   With next year’s draft, we’ll have a clearer picture of what and who we need in the back court.
