NBA Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers Now Vetting Dion Waiters
By Bret Stuter
With Harrison Barnes all but out of reach of the Philadelphia 76ers, NBA Rumors have the team now turning their attention to Dion Waiters?
Free Agency is such a dynamic time. You set your shopping list but need to react on the fly as your targets commit to other teams. The Philadelphia 76ers’ situation is even more complicated, as our 10 win season places us virtually at the end of any free agent’s rolodex. Despite the challenge, the Philadelphia 76ers did try to reach out to Harrison Barnes, but that ended up fruitless.
So it seems to be for the Philadelphia 76ers, linked to both Golden State Warrior’s small forward Harrison Barnes, as well as to Oklahoma City Thunder’s shooting guard Dion Waiters. The Philadelphia 76ers had a prayer of catching the eye of Harrison Barnes if the Warriors signed free agent Kevin Durant and no other team offered the but the team’s prayers went unanswered
With the Mavericks offer, the only real choices for Barnes now is to wait and see if the Warriors match the offer sheet. In either case, he is no longer an option for the Philadelphia 76ers. That means the field is shrinking.

The 76ers have been linked to Allen Crabbe and to Jamal Crawford as well. So far, we’ve seen that the word on the street, even from the informed, does not carry much weight. Moments after rumors surfaced that the Boston Celtics had little chance of signing former Atlanta Hawk center Al Horford, Horford himself tweeted that he would be joining the Boston Celtics.
But for Dion Waiters, the two front-runners were the Sacramento Kings and the Philadelphia 76ers.
