Contract and Future
With Curry’s role on the team seeming fairly obvious in regards to what he’s capable of contributing, his potential contract amount is much more difficult to pinpoint. We’ve seen countless contracts given out with values that far surpass the actual value of a player’s on-court aptitude, and it’s tough to expect anything different when dealing with Curry. He had an explosive end to the season, which likely drove his price up quite a bit, while his skill set is one that a number of teams could reasonably benefit from.
Players of his caliber seem to be coming off the board for prices relatively similar to that of Jerryd Bayless, who was signed to a 3 year, $27 million deal by the Sixers earlier this week. That would put Curry’s potential range in the $6 to 10 million per year range, although his lack of experience and a proven track record could drive his price towards the lower end of those quantities.
All things considered, that would be a highly valuable signing given the cap increase that is expected to occur once again next season, especially in comparison to other deals handed out this offseason.

Curry is an affordable piece who, contrary to the belief of George Karl, could stick around with a team like Philly for a while as a bench piece. He’s a skilled scoring spark and a volume scorer who can fill it up on any given night. He helps out an immediate need, while filling a role that, while likely not all that large, could be valuable a few years in the future as well. Philadelphia’s options are already dwindling for this year’s free agency pool, and Curry is one of the better options left on the board from their viewpoint.
