What Should Excite Philadelphia 76ers Fans Most?
Ben Simmons? Joel Embiid? Next year’s NBA Draft?
These three main ideas are the crucial components that make up the future of the Philadelphia 76ers and whether or not they are a relevant franchise in the near future. So far Simmons has not disappointed in the Summer League and has shown flashes of brilliance as both a scorer and a distributor. Joel Embiid on the other hand has been more myth so far, like the Loch Ness monster or Bigfoot; a freakish athlete that seen by few but has yet to contribute in an NBA game. Whether or not Embiid actually plays for the 76ers is still the main question mark among most fans but regardless of his playing status, the hype is universal, and intense.
While both Simmons and Embiid are currently on the 76ers roster let’s not forget that they could potentially have two top 10 picks in the 2017 draft which looks like a great draft for guards. With all of these pieces now in place and the future looking brighter after each game, what should 76ers fans look forward to most?
Is Simmons the real prize for the 76ers or should fans still hold out for Embiid?
What happens if the 76ers do land two top 10 picks or even top 5 picks and are able to draft guys like Josh Jackson from Kansas or Markelle Fultz from Washington?
The fact that 76ers fans have so much to look forward to is an exciting thought in itself, but what should fans look forward to most? This is a debatable topic and one that has no wrong answer.

Through four games in the Summer League, Simmons has displayed what made him the #1 pick including his incredible court vision and passing ability. Several of Simmons passes have looked like passes made by a veteran NBA star yet he is only 19 years old. During Sunday night’s game against the Chicago Bulls, Simmons was challenged with the task of shooting more and answered with 18 points including 8 straight points in the fourth quarter. At times, Simmons looks very similar to Draymond Green but it is easy to see why some dare to compare the 6-foot-10 rookie to NBA greats like LeBron James or Magic Johnson. Right now, Simmons seems to be the “as advertised” blue chip prospect on the team who will step into the regular season as their best player.
Like Simmons in the Summer League, most the media has turned its attention to Embiid who seems to be healthy and ready for the 2016 season. Over the last few months, various videos and vines have surfaced showing Embiid’s freakish athleticism and ability to get to the rim with minimal limitations. Since the 2014 NBA Draft, Embiid has been the center of attention for the 76ers and many speculate whether or not the young player will have a worthwhile career in the NBA due to multiple injuries.
Some former athletes like Greg Oden struggled to survive in the league due to injurie. Conversely Yao Ming had similar leg injuries and played in the NBA for more than a decade, even playing at an all-star level. Embiid has more potential than Simmons and if he can remain healthy, the 76ers could have themselves one of the best centers in the league and one of the most charismatic players as well. If Embiid can stay healthy, should that excite fans more than Simmons potential? Again, there are no wrong answers.

The future of the 76ers looks as bright as it has in the past decade and it will continue to shine with a core of young players and future draft picks. Whatever excites fans most about this team is left up to the opinions of the fans and let’s just say there is a lot to look forward to with this 76ers team.
