This year, Brett Brown has the right roster in place for his Pace Space Pass offense. Will it make a difference? You bet it will!

The Philadelphia 76ers came within a single point of beating the Golden State Warriors last season. The very best team facing the very worst team, decided by a miraculous shot at the buzzer.

The Philadelphia 76ers muscled through a season where anything that could go wrong, did go wrong.  The team started last season with a committee of point guard hopefuls (a position head coach Brett Brown thinks is the most important position in the lineup), with a third of the team injured, with the only true veteran of the roster unable to even suit up until December of 2015.

More from Sixers News

He piloted the team through only getting a true point guard on the roster over Christmas, only to lose his top offensive player 26 games later.  He won ten games in a season that was surprising to win more than five.  But most of all, his teams scrapped and played hard virtually every night, from the first jump ball to the sound of the buzzer.

Now, all of that changes.

The reason you could never determine Brown’s penchant for success was that he was immersed in developing players nearly every waking moment of his coaching time with the Philadelphia 76ers.  This year, that is replaced with a new task: what to do with all these incredible new players?   The cast of the Philadelphia 76ers resembles a “who’s who” of NBA players designed to run a Brett Brown scheme to its full potential.

Much like a football head coach, Brown was severely limited on the complexity of plays he could run with a roster of no-shows (injury) and very young players.  This year, that same head coach will be able to run a lineup with the least experienced player entering his third NBA season.  Last season, he started the season with a starting lineup whose most experienced player had just two years of experience.

But even more enthralling is the type of player coming to the Philadelphia 76ers this season.  As a whole, this is a group with superior passing skills, with good perimeter shooting, dedicated, hard working, passionate, and fast paced.  This year, it won’t be ‘which player is healthy enough to carry minutes tonight?”  Now he’ll have a roster with enough experience to run his plays.  This year he will have position battles to allow to run their course.  This year, some good players run the risk of being cut, simply because the team will run out of slots.

But more than anything, this year will field a team who reflect the philosophy of the head coach. This roster is built to fit his grip, address his priorities, emphasize his values in the NBA.  Moreso than seeing individual players perform this season, I am looking forward to Brown performing his magic with this team.
