Positionless and versatility

Let’s talk about Dario Saric’s position for a moment. On teams with solid structure, and a clearly set five different and distinct positions at any given time, Dario Saric would probably play as a power forward, and on occasion (maybe even more than just on occasion, after a while) small forward as well.

With the Sixers, however, he may not be there all the time. In fact, there may be times where it’s tough to label what his exact position on the floor is. You see, the NBA, and the Sixers alike, is really in a transition period. It’s slightly influenced by the success of the Golden State Warriors.

Now, instead of putting five players on the floor with five distinct skill sets and strong skills, teams are putting five players on the floor who may be similar, who may not be all that different from any other given teammate. Instead of five distinct skills, these players are often good at just about everything.

They’re versatile. They can be almost anywhere on the floor and have success.

Of course, every player has their flaws. Every player will not be able to do everything. But Simmons, being a player who has some muscle and can play as a four, offers a sense of versatility because he can knock down some 3-pointers once in a while, and because he can even facilitate a fast break from time to time.

Saric is more mobile than a typical power forward, and at times looks like a guard or wing player. The only position that would be truly tough for him to slip into is the center, but luckily the Sixers have a ton of big men to take that role over.

Saric is versatile, and he only points to the idea that a position-less team is on its way.
