Philadelphia 76ers’ Core: Ultimate Roster Analysis and Predictions
By Bret Stuter
Isaiah Canaan
Status: Free Agent, good niche player for perimeter shooter
Contracted Through: signed to deal with Chicago Bulls
Current 2016-2017 Salary:
Trade Value: even if signed, he would likely not have garnered much interest.
Strengths: He can play some defense, versed in both point and shooting guard roles. He has an uncanny knack for scoring better from the perimeter than two-point range, and he can score in traffic. When he is hot, he can score in bunches.
Offense: He loves the three-point shot, and the three point shot loves him.
Defense: Knowledgeable to disrupt some plays, but not strong enough to do so consistently.
Weaknesses: Short-statured volume shooter. Not exceptionally athletic, just a hard-nosed ball player who will keep coming at you. When he turns cold, he keeps on shooting.
Offense: He is vulnerable within the arc, and plays best if he sets up in the left corner, gets the ball, and can shoot. Nearly every other shot is low percentage accuracy.
Defense: He is scrappy, and keeps coming after the ball. He is vulnerable to quick steps, and can be beaten both at the perimeter and if he bites on a move to a drive to the basket.
