2017 NBA Draft Big Board 1.0
13. SF Jonathan Isaac, Florida State
Isaac has a ton of tools to work with, it’s just a matter of putting them together this upcoming season with the Noles. The rising freshman has truly impressive physical attributes for somebody who spends the majority of his time on the wing, standing at 6-11 and wielding a 7-1 wingspan. He’s still slim in build, but is far more mobile than typical players with his stature, and has shown flashes of becoming an excellent two-way force.
On the offensive end, Isaac’s consistency has been his main hindrance thus far. He has solid mechanics on his jumper and a fairly decent grasp on handling the ball (he played guard in high school), but has never been able to show them off in prolific fashion for an extended period of time.
He can space the floor out to the 3-point line and knock down jumpers off the dribble, attributes that make him a tantalizing prospect as an isolation scorer, but he still must iron out some of his most glaring kinks on that side of the ball.
Defensively, Isaac has excelled thus far in the early semblances of his career. He can step out to the perimeter and guard wings at a level few players with his physical gifts can, and he has the athleticism needed to produce as a shot blocker or someone who can create turnovers at a high rate. He still gets pushed around by stronger opponents underneath the basket from time to time, but has plenty of room to fill out his frame.
.
Isaac is one of the biggest unknowns heading into his freshman campaign with Florida State. He has the potential to be a legitimate top 5 pick and establish himself as a frightening prospect at the next level, but his inconsistency could very well drop his stock in the opposite direction as well. He’s somebody worth keeping an eye on.
