Part V in a series of analytics investigation of ways to improve the Philadelphia 76ers focusing on ways to improve the shooting accuracy. Which steps can the team take to help that process along?
The Philadelphia 76ers were not a very good team last year. If fact, they sat as the NBA worst, winning just ten games out of an 82 game season. While the team has made some changes to the roster, and added new faces, change itself is not the answer. Change must be made with specific goals in mind. Goals which are definable, quantifiable, measurable, and drilled to improve the success.
In our first two segments, we analyzed the team’s vanilla offense, and how the roster woes of the opening to the 2015-2016 season added months of lethargy to an already challenged offense. Afterwards, we touched based on the team’s lack of rebounding, and how that likely contributed to the struggles for the team last season. Following up with that lack of rebounding, we investigated how the changing roster has improved the outlook of the team’s ability to work the boards this year, and how the stiff competition to start could push some very skilled players to the bench this season. Finally, we examined the ability of the team to move the ball, and began to tie this dissimilar concepts into the common thread of improving the overall team’s performance.
In the last segment, we covered the combination to unlock the safe of success. Where we ended up was rebounding, assists, shooting accuracy from three-point range and shooting accuracy from the floor. Teams that excel in these four categories win basketball games, and in turn, win championships.
