With the recent unfortunate injury to Ben Simmons, the Philadelphia 76ers’ lineup with inevitably change. There are many potential line-ups that the Sixers may use at various points throughout the season.

More from The Sixer Sense

Jerryd Bayless may start the season at point guard since it’s Sergio Rodriguez’s first season in the NBA since playing for the New York Knicks back in the 2009-10 season, but over time I believe Rodriguez will start as he bring some quality playmaking skills, more than Bayless. Rodriguez also has a consistent 3-point shot, which he put on display during the Olympics.

Gerald Henderson will bring some much needed veteran presence to this young Sixers team, he offers versatility whether that’s shooting the three ball or driving to the hoop. He will be a crucial piece if the 76ers want to do better than last year.

Robert Covington continues to show the potential he has; he shows great promise from the 3-point line but can sometime have dry spells. Once Simmons returns, Covington could play a crucial role in spacing the floor. Sixers fans hope that Covington can improve his overall game and take the next step. This may be his breakout year.

Dario Saric will take Simmons’ place while he’s out, and he fits it perfectly. Saric is also a point-forward like Simmons, and he impressed many during the Olympics. Sixer fans are excited to see what he may bring to the table. His playmaking skills are great for a forward, and he also has a consistent 3-point shot which is helpful. He’ll get a chance to prove his worth in the time Simmons is out.

It’s a toss up at center. Some people may think Noel should start due to his defense. Some may think Embiid, but he will start the season on minute restictions. Some think Okafor because of his offensive repertoire. To start the season, Embiid is out of the question as he hasn’t played in two years. Noel seems to not have his head in the right place as he continually disses something surrounding the 76ers. Okafor has worked hard throughout the offseason, but the problem with him starting is that there will be zero defense being played, it will be a case of outscoring the opposition.

At the end of the day, Philadelphia has tons of ways they could change up the starting lineup, ways where defense is the priority and ways where offense is the priority. Then once Simmons returns, our bench will be improved with Saric making way, offering more versatility to each the bench and the starting line-up.
