Derrick Walton Jr.

Despite being the starting point guard for John Beilein’s Michigan Wolverines for multiple years, Derrick Walton was an afterthought as a potential second round draft pick or even a potential interesting undrafted free agent.

But the senior has been the major reason his team has been one of the hottest teams in the country over the last three weeks, and we all know March success often turns into more looks come draft time in June.

Michigan won four straight games to win the Big Ten Tournament as an eight-seed a few weeks ago, and headed into the tournament as the seven seed in the midwest.

Walton led the way for his team in the opening round, scoring 26 points including six three pointers in the team’s win over Oklahoma State.

The Detroit, Michigan native has drawn comparisons to Shabazz Napier for his play of late, and being undersized at 6’1″.

Walton’s ability to shoot off the dribble and create his own shot will get him some looks by NBA teams, but he will be a late draft pick if he is picked at all.

Walton could be a target for the Sixers as an undrafted free agent if they want someone to give someone a chance in summer league to potentially make the team.
