Sam Hinkie deserves a second chance, who will give it to him?
Sam Hinkie has been sitting on the sidelines for about a year since his departure from the Philadelphia 76ers. Now, it’s time for his second chance.
Are we really surprised that former Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Sam Hinkie has received attention from the Sacramento Kings?
Sam Hinkie has received a tremendous amount of credit from fans and media members for taking a franchise with a bleak future and a roster featuring average talent, and turning it around in less than three full seasons.
On the other hand, some saw it as Hinkie not knowing what he was doing and tricking people into giving him more time to run the team.

Tenure with the Sixers
Either way you want to look at the job Sam Hinkie did as general manager is understandable. But it cannot not be denied that Hinkie inherited a struggling franchise with no star talent.
Due to the lack of premiere talent he decided to put an unprecedented plan into action and for that he deserves credit.
It was a bold plan that many thought a city like Philadelphia, hungry for a winner and a competitive team, would not tolerate.
It’s fair to say there were some tough times during his tenure. The best moments of the process would come after his departure with the ascension of Joel Embiid.
The jury is still out about whether Hinkie’s plan will work out but even if it does not he still deserves a second chance.

Hinkie did not have a fair shot to complete his famous “Process.” After nearly three full seasons as president and general manager the NBA grew impatient with his plan and forced ownership to hire a “basketball guy.”
Enter Jerry Colangelo, director of USA Basketball and former NBA general manager, as Chairmen of Basketball Operations for the organization.
The writing was on the wall for Hinkie, who eventually stepped down as Sixers general manager.
Just a few days later Bryan Colangelo, son of Jerry Colangelo, was named General Manager and President of Basketball Operations, according to the Sixers.
Second chance for Hinkie
Now that Hinkie has been out of the league for about a year, it’s time for him to get a second chance.
If a team like the Sacramento Kings would be willing to buy into a rebuild and allow for Hinkie to make trades and draft players, they need to jump at this opportunity.
Teams should look at the 2012-2013 Sixers and compare it the current roster. Hinkie had a lot to do with not only the high amount of talent on the team now, but setting the team up for future success.

There a plenty of teams in the NBA that need to enter a rebuilding mode and a call to Sam Hinkie should be the first thing on their agenda.
