Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets are a potential destination if the team manages to trade center Brook Lopez. And for the record, the Nets current draft situation necessitates taking some extreme chances this offseason.
Sir Charles In Charge
The team rolled heavy on the dice when they traded forward Thaddeus Young to the Indiana Pacers for rookie guard Caris LeVert and a second round pick. The team signed guard Jeremy Lin, forward Trevor Booker, forward Anthony Bennett, Levert, and guard Randy Foye. The team had modest results from Lin and Booker. Modest in that both generated good stats, but only twenty victories for the team.
Nets Need Novel Solutions
This season, the Nets will surrender a significant 2017 NBA Draft pick to the Boston Celtics via a draft swap. But in return, the team gets the Celtics first and second round picks.
The team has also landed the Wizards first round pick. Right now, those picks are not lottery picks, so they fall at 22, 27 and 57.
However, the team could trade Brook Lopez this offseason. That should yield a lottery pick. The only problem? How to fill the center position in a draft without centers. The answer is obvious to a fan of the Philadelphia 76ers. Pair two late first round picks for Jahlil Okafor, spend the lottery pick on another solid player, and begin the rebuild. Will the Nets trade Lopez? I cannot say, but if they get close, watch for them to move to Okafor.
