Dwayne Bacon Is Not An NBA Draft Prospect For Philadelphia 76ers

Defensive Deficiencies

On the other side of the ball, Bacon could be an adequate defender if he commits himself. On one hand, he lacks explosiveness and elite quickness.  As a result, Bacon gets very few blocks or steals.

  • On the other hand, his physical limitations do not stop Bacon from gambling for the steal regardless of how late he is on the pass.

    This is evident when Bacon try’s to recover from a screen, typically resulting in an uncontested jumper. In fact Bacon shows no fight to get around screens and is a surprising liability for a player of his caliber.  He struggles to navigate the pick and roll as well. In isolation situations, Bacon does not sit in his stanc. That creates poor lateral quickness. Guards will have no problem beating Bacon to the basket if this does not improve.

    Likewise, beating his defender has shown to be difficult due to Bacon’s lack of advanced ball-handling and average first step.
