Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Brett Brown Knows Tall PGs Can Work In NBA
By Bret Stuter
Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown is very confident in Ben Simmons functioning as an NBA point guard. You see, he’s had plenty of tall point guard experience.
Well now that the smoke over the Philadelphia 76ers from the 2017 NBA Lottery has cleared, crack open a cold one. Brett is back to the gym. In fact, it’s time to celebrate Philadelphia! On one hand, the team moved up a spot in the 2017 NBA Draft and landed third. On the other hand, the Sixers have retained that all important 2018 first round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Michael Porter Jr. and Luka Doncic will enter the NBA in 2018. I like the thought of having multiple opportunities to select either one. From what I see of the Lakers 2016 free agent activity, plus the fire sale of productive players hoping to tank for their 2017 first round pick , the Lakers won’t be winning games any time soon.
NBA Lottery Dust Settles
So the Philadelphia 76ers emerge from the NBA Lottery in pretty good shape from a long range perspective. But without a chance a Markelle Fultz, nor that Lakers first round pick to burn on a back court player, the team must now consider Ben Simmons as that starting point guard. Sure, the team can drive a Brink’s truck up to Kyle Lowry‘s home and toss sacks of cash at him , but that’s not what many believe to be the right choice.

There is something more at work here. How can the Philadelphia 76ers be so confident that a rookie who did not play point guard at the collegiate level can do so at the NBA level? Ah… well here’s where I can help. It all began….
