On Defense
Mike O’Connor did a great job at scaring my pants off this morning about Jacksons defense. It is definitely worth a read but keep the lights on.
So how does he compare statistically with the peers in this group?
So lets look at a grouping of stats to give a picture. Defensive Rating, Stealts per 100 posessions and Blocks per 100 possessions.
Player |
DRTG |
Stls/100 |
Blk/100 |
Josh Jackson | 96 | 3.1 | 1.9 |
Stanley Johnson | 87.6 | 3.2 | 0.8 |
Justice Winslow | 92.8 | 2.8 | 1.8 |
Andrew Wiggins | 102.8 | 2.1 | 1.7 |
This view has him rated somewhere between Justise Winslow and Andrew Wiggins on the defensive side of the ball. Winslow and Johnson are considered defensive specialists but so far in the NBA they have been average. This tends to be a stat that does improve over time. Wiggins has all of the physical tools to be a great defender in the NBA but that has yet to materialize at any level.
