So draft him #3?
Short answer? No probably not. As much as I love Josh Jackson he compares much closer to Johnson and Winslow who were drafted #8 and #10 in drafts that were not considered as deep as 2017. I think those two players serve as fairly stark reminders of the difficulties of translating a shot to the NBA three point line. As much as I truly value all of the other aspects of Jackson’s game, an absolutely necessity for the Philadelphia 76ers is to surround Simmons and Embiid knock down catch and shoot players.
Do I think Jackson may be the second best player in this draft? Yes I do. If I were the Lakers I would pass on Lonzo Ball and draft Jackson. I think his game fits better with their roster than Philadelphia. Do I think Jackson should fall to #8? Absolutely not, he would be a fantastic fit in Phoenix next to Devin Booker and he should not slide past #4 in my opinion.
My brain just cannot make the leap to join my heart on the Josh Jackson admiration society.
So what should be done?
If Boston is open to trading back to #3 I think the Philadelphia 76ers should part ways with a number of assets to move up and draft Fultz. As controversial as it may be here, I would include #3 and Dario Saric in that package and likely a future first as well. Read here why I believe Dario is Valuable, but not untouchable.
If that deal does not have a chance to happen then I would suggest a trade back. If Sacramento was a willing partner I would move back to #5 and #10 and draft Jonathan Isaac and whichever of the top 10 prospects falls to that spot. This draft is loaded all the way to #11 or so.
Next: Trading For Jimmy Butler versus Signing Kyle Lowry
If neither of those types of deals materialize I would look to bring in Jimmy Butler or Paul George. These players have proven they can make the transition to the NBA and would immediately vault the Philadelphia 76ers into contention. Butler may not space the floor but his superstardom and reasonable contract would make me go for it. If you can guarantee me that Josh Jackson becomes Jimmy Butler offensively and defensively? Then by all means, lets draft him.
