Can Philadelphia 76ers Find 25 All-Time NBA Draft 2nd Rounder?
By Bret Stuter
With the 46th pick of the 2017 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select….
Kansas point guard Frank Mason III is an automatic consideration for the Philadelphia 76ers. You see, he is a Kansas Jayhawk alum, the same school of Joel Embiid. And with Embiid’s contract expiring at the end of 2018, the Philadelphia 76esrs should consider every possible angle to re-sign him.
But there are plenty of reasons to consider Mason on his own merits. You see, Sixer Sense Brian Doogan considers him a near perfect fit for the team. He points out the fact of the embedded chemistry with potential third pick, Kansas Josh Jackson. Combine that with the field general leasership of Mason and you have a compelling argument. Now layer on Mason’s 20.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, and you have plenty of reason to jump at the chance. The holdup? He stands 6-foot-0 and in the backcourt deep draft that is all it takes to fall. If he is at 46, the Philadelphia 76ers should not hesitate.
Kuzma
Utah small forward/power forward Kyle Kuzma is a 6-foot-10 223 pound prospect with plenty of upside. His box score stats of 16.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game are enough to warrant a selection at 46. But some have him coming off the board much higher. The Utah Jazz had the hometown prospect in for a workout, and with their selections falling at 24, 30, 42 and 55, they have three chances to select him prior to the 76ers pick at 46. In that article, Kuzma is cited as projected as high as 16 to the Chicago Bulls.
So at 46, he is indeed worth a pick. But the consensus of where that pick happens is an NBA engima. He is a solid basketball player who never developed a three-point shot. But at 46, you do not look for everything. Instead, you focus on one excellent thing and presume the remainder of his game will follow suit. His is extremely versatile, and has great basketball IQ. The three point shot can come over time.
