II: Forces Philadelphia Off-Season Focus Beating Cavs (not future)

While this makes complete sense, it’s important to understand the value of Joel Embiid’s claim. In the wake of the subtle gauntlet tossed to the ground, the star center is suggesting that free agents can no longer duct-tape the teams roster through injuries or rookie player development.

Now, the team must find players who add, fit, and amplify the roster.  No more shopping from the bargain basement. No more guesswork on veteran health.  The players targeted in this off-season must be more than bridges into some distant future.

Now, the team has set the standard of reference. In short, to every more the team makes this year, someone will ask: “How does this improve our chances against the Cleveland Cavaliers?”. That measuring stick is huge for this team.

Front Office Now Accountable

Much like the fear of an electric fence herds large farm animals, the fear of public dissent over transactions that do not pass the Embiid-inspired litmus test will keep the 76ers front office in check.

As rumors come and go, and whispers of “unnamed NBA sources” begins to fill your timelines once more, you are now empowered to assess that rumor thanks to Joel Embiid. Will it improve the Sixers chances of dethroning the Cleveland Cavaliers?  That is an incredibly powerful tool to steer the direction of the team.
