Contracts expire at the end of the 2017-2018 season for Robert Covington, Joel Embiid, Nik Stauskas, and Gerald Henderson. While the team will certainly make committed efforts to retain both Covington and Embiid, the team has some maneuver room at shooting guard.
Both Henderson and Stauskas may be competing for one roster spot this year. Or, the team may simply go with Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot at the two and plan to load up at shooting guard via the 2017 NBA Draft.
But however it plays out this year, the Philadelphia 76ers have to assess the fit of Furkan Korkmaz within this roster prior to severing ties with either Henderson or Stauskas. The only way to do that is bring him onboard for the 2017-2018 season.
