We are family, I’ve got all my Sixers and me.

We all have wacky family that we see at family gatherings.  We’ve got quite the cast of characters in my family. As the Summer season is upon us, let me reflect on our Philadelphia 76ers family while hanging out at the cookout:

Benny

Benny talks with a funny accent, We know where he grew up and then sometimes he busts out with some wild pronunciation that sounds like he’s from somewhere else. He walks around and just picks up cats at any function and lifts them over his head in triumph….

Uncle JoJo

JoJo is the fun uncle who plays soccer with the kids in the family and constantly talks trash — all as he dribbles them in circles and scores relentlessly with no mercy.

All the little cousins love JoJo, even as he clowns them, because he tells stories about killing lions with his bare hands by the time he was their age. Many of the little nephews believe him….

Dario the Homie

He’s a long distance cousin who had been promising to come visit for years. We used to joke “he’s never coming over,” but then one day he was here. Upon arrival he said “what can I do to help” and works his butt off remodeling our house.

Uncle TJ

Nobody expected much from Uncle TJ, as he bounced around colleges but finally opened up his own power washing business. Everyone was sure he would fail but he worked his tail off, and year after year he kept putting his competitors out of business. He runs his mouth a bit and you can see he’s got a chip on his shoulder, but it’s what drives him. He’s kind of pissed because each year someone in the family keeps assuming he’s going to fail. Always yelling at Dario and hangs out with Nicky alot.

My nephew Oak

When he was a kid we all thought would end up rich or famous, but here he is two years out of school and still kind of broke. He got his licensed revoked and has been known to get into bar fights. The aunts still think hes only 19…

More from The Sixer Sense

“Little” Richie

Richie grew up tall and is a low key beast. Had kids too young. He’s got a baby face even though he’s supporting a family.

Smooth Timothe’

He’s my sisters boyfriend who is quiet and smooth, wears high fashion and is too good looking to be at our family gathering. Timothe’s not a bad guy I guess, but he seems to think he’s better than us…. she wants to get married and he wants an open relationship. Likes wine but not from a box like the Aunts drink.

Cousin Bobby Cov

Bobby is that cousin who keeps to himself but when you finally get him talking he’s the nicest guy. Vastly underpaid but I hear tell he’s about to get a big raise.

Nicky “Sauce”

Cousin Nicky lived out west for a year and hated it. He came back east and he’s a likable guy but he seems like he may need to catch a break to really make his career. Flirted with growing a beard to make him seem like he had grit, but Nicky is not a gritty guy.

Cousin Angie’s Little Boy Justin

Little Justin is like Bam Bam from the Flintstones. Things just get broken when Justin is around. We try to keep him playing outside.

Grandpa Henderson

Grandpa Henderson is wise and cool and likes to tell stories about his time in the military. He thinks kids today aren’t tough. He still thinks he can play ball but his old man game doesn’t quite fit with the kids.
