Buyout Schmyout

The crux to the consideration of Furkan Korkmaz’s trek to the NBA begins with the buyout clause. In point of fact, that is the cost of severing the international contract prematurely, and is usually stepped in proportion to the amount of time unfulfilled. Reports declared the cost of a 2016 buyout to be $2,000,000.

So it stands to reason that the 2017 buyout clause would cost over $1,000,000.  Further complicating the buyout is the fact that the Philadelphia 76ers are capped at $675,000 in any buyout effort entering the 2017-2018 season. That means the remainder of the buyout comes out of Furkan Korkmaz’s pocket.

Furkan Korkmaz desperately wanted to step onto the stage in the 2016 NBA Draft and join the ranks of Ben Simmons and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot.
