Robert Covington remains a cornerstone to the Philadelphia 76ers. Here are three reasons why the Philadelphia 76ers must starte “RoCo”

Philadelphia 76ers’ Robert Covington is the epitome of the NBA team player envisioned by the basketball genius of former executive Sam Hinkie and head coach Brett Brown.  Standing 6-foot-9 and weighing in at 215 pounds, “RoCo” is a player who is positionless.  Literally.

On one hand, he can play small ball center. On the other hand, with his perimeter shot he contributes heavily as a stretch-four.  In fact, he has the defensive and offensive acumen to line up as the small forward.  Furthermore, he has the ability to slide into the back court in a version of tall ball. And in a pinch, he could slide to point (but not there for long).

Philly Passion

But ultimately, he’s a Philadelphia 76ers player through and through, and each day he becomes more experienced, more in-tune with the overall scheme of head coach Brett Brown, and move sage veteran mentor to new players. In short, he has been forged by the fires of tribulation for the city of Philadelphia.

For all of that, many skeptical minds need more to see Robert Covington as a starter in the face of the 2017 NBA Draft loaded with small forward talent.  So to squelch the uprising, here are three reasons why you can expect Covington to be starting for the team going forward:

I.   Versatility
II   Defense
III. Veteran Panache

Now let’s explore each a bit further
