A Q&A With Luke Nelson
By Owen Nelson
I had the great opportunity to talk to NBA-bound Luke Nelson about several different topics regarding life and the 2017 NBA Draft.
Following my recent article ‘Why The 76ers Should Target Luke Nelson‘, I decided to reach out to the former UC Irvine point guard and ask him 10 questions about various different topics. Without further ado, here is the Q&A I was privileged to have with Luke Nelson.

Q&A:
Could you explain your background for those who may not know you?
I’m from Worthing, England, but I spent my last two years in England at the Henley College and playing for the Reading Rockets.
When and why did you start playing basketball?
My dad played professionally in England so my first few years of life were spent around basketball, so that’s why I started playing, but I started playing for a team when I was eight years old.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
My biggest inspiration is probably my dad. He is the hardest working man I know and he’s done a lot for me and my family.
Who are your favorite basketball and soccer teams?
I don’t really have a favorite basketball team, I love being able to watch and not be biased and just appreciate the game. My favorite soccer team is Manchester United!
Who would you compare your game to and why?
I would compare my game to Damian Lillard or Stephen Curry; because I’m a point guard who has the ability to score and create with the threat of my jump shot.
How has the draft process been treating you?
It has been okay! I’m just waiting for opportunities to prove myself!
Where have you been working out?
I have been working out on the UC Irvine campus since I have been in four classes for spring quarter, we are currently in finals week.

Have you been working out with any other prospects? If so, who?
I haven’t been working out with any other prospects on a regular basis since I’ve been on campus.
Do you have any pre-draft workouts scheduled with NBA teams?
I have had two NBA workouts so far and I’m not sure if there’s any more to come, but I’m hoping some will come up.
What excites you most about playing at the next level?
The most exciting thing is that I get to turn the game that I love into a legit career and not many people in this world get an opportunity to do that.
