2017 NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Pre-Draft
By Owen Nelson
With Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade on the decline and Jimmy Butler constantly in trade rumors, the Chicago Bulls may look to add another guard to build around as the inevitable rebuild is right around the corner. The rebuild should’ve started last offseason, but late is better than never.
It’s definitely possible that the Bulls trade Butler to the Boston Celtics in return for the number three pick. This would be a good way to accelerate the rebuild for the Bulls. If they don’t pull this trade off then Donovan Mitchell is the best remaining guard that is still on the board.
Mitchell could very well play as the point guard off the bench, or a similar role to Lou Williams. However, Mitchell is fairly inconsistent and inefficient, some games he can be outstanding, one being a 29 point performance against Pittsburgh, he shot 6-8 from three that game. In counter, Mitchell can have atrocious games like he did against Jacksonville State in the NCAA Tournament where he scored nine points and shot an abysmal 3-15 from the field.
