Discussing rotations become complex
Discussions break down further when you discuss the Philadelphia 76ers rotations. When Ben Simmons comes off the floor, who does Coach Brown send onto the court? If you don’t name a ball handler currently on the team, you’ll confuse everyone.
But that is not enough. Simmons coming off the court will need players to “shift”. In short, Simmons off the court means the team falls to a more traditional lineup.
So how do fans discuss the roster?
Replace with whom?
There’s the rub. Dario Saric is the presumed power forward. Joel Embiid is the obvious center. Robert Covington is a small forward. Markelle Fultz is the shooting guard.
But who goes in next? And then after that? Some players can fill multiple roles. Dario Saric can fill center, power forward, and small forward. Robert Covington at power forward, small forward, and shooting guard, and so on.
And so, the circle is now complete. However the team runs a starting line-up, the confusion begins with the bench. The team has 12 players under contract, and are aiming at 17 players for the 2017-2018 season. Which players at which positions do they fill? I assert that a player at the power forward role is now a need. Many have rebutted that, believing the team will look to wings.
In the end, we’ll all anticipate who fills the holes on this roster. And if the intelligent 76ers fans lock on the debate, imagine the nightmare to teams forced to play against us?
