Which non-Fultz/Korkmaz/Bolden Summer Leaguer has the best shot at making the roster?

Summer League is always difficult to get a read on. Players from a bevy of different situations are thrown onto the same court with different goals from a individual standpoint. Some are looking to hero-ball their way to a training camp invite, while others are simply looking to polish off their skill set.

The Sixers, for the first time during Brett Brown’s tenure as head coach, likely won’t be looking for as many players from that first characterization.

With a good bit of depth at every position, the Sixers’ two-way contracts will likely be the only avenue towards a roster spot for a Summer League player who isn’t already in their future plans. The Sixers went into Vegas with a handful of noteworthy names, as both Melo Trimble and Isaiah Briscoe were among the most successful collegiate guards in the country.

But it’s Isaiah Miles, a four-year forward from St. Joseph’s who went undrafted in 2016, that seems to be making the strongest push for a contract thus far.

A 6-foot-7, Miles’ combination of defensive effort and quick scorings bursts have made him one of the Summer Sixers’ most effective players thus far. He shot 75 percent from deep during his two games in Utah, while averaging 14 points per game in what is now his second stint in the NBA Summer League.

Last season, after failing to latch onto an NBA roster, Miles went to France, signing with JDA Dijon Basket — where he was among the youngest players in his league. He now has professional experience to leverage to his advantage as he searches out a roster spot in the States.

A heady defender with clear utility on offense, Miles is somebody that the Sixers brass will likely consider investing in short term, with the chance for a more extensive commitment down the road if his play pans out.
