NBA 2K18 has released its all-time Philadelphia 76ers squad, with many eras represented. We take a look at the roster, the notable inclusions and one glaring omission.

First off, what is NBA 2K18, you may ask? Well it is a gaming platform that is intertwined with many basketball fans’ NBA experience. I have been a gamer for many years and NBA 2K has become an absolute cornerstone of my gaming year in the last five years. Players can play quick games or compete online. Additionally you can also create a player and play his career or even act as a General Manager and manage all aspects of roster, salary, trades and free agency.

The game is fantastic as a simulator as well as a playable game. One of the first things I typically do is simulate an entire season with the Philadelphia 76ers‘ current roster. This gives me a feel for the team’s prospects.

One of the new features of 2K18 is the introduction of all-time franchise teams. As you can guess, teams like the Lakers, Celtics, Bulls and Sixers will have very strong rosters that can be played. So let’s look at who the 2K franchise selected for the Philadelphia 76ers all time list.

Key takeaways

The obvious choices are in the pantheon of Sixers lore. Iverson being rated as the greatest player in Sixers history is surprising given Wilt Chamberlains inclusion. Chamberlain having a rating of just 93 is quite surprising, while very good it is hard to envision someone who averaged 27.6 points,23.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game not being rated at or near a 99.

More from 76ers All-Time Lists

Joel Embiid shows up on the list as the backup center which is striking for a player who has played just 31 games in his career. I could argue for Moses Malone based on contribution but honestly I think based on talent Embiid has a great chance to be the second best center in Philadelphia 76ers history. It’s hard not to project this five years forward and think that Embiid won’t be among the greats. Clearly the game makers agree.

Notable exclusions

Charles Barkley is the biggest and most glaring omission. There is talk that Barkley has refused permission for his likeness to be used which would explain it. Still any all time Sixer list that excludes Barkley is simply not accurate.

Moses Malone is the other big exclusion in my opinion. Malone averaged 21 points per game and 12 rebounds over five seasons in Philadelphia. It’s hard to imagine he doesn’t make the list over Henry Bibby, for example.

Summary

This should be a really cool and fun feature added to a storied franchise. For more information visit 2K’s website.
