WASHINGTON, DC – OCTOBER 18: Markelle Fultz
WASHINGTON, DC – OCTOBER 18: Markelle Fultz

Can someone tell me the deal on Markelle Fultz?

I am not certain anyone truly can, but here goes my best effort. The media scrutiny from college to the pros is huge. On one hand, college media writes why the NBA fans should love the young men. On the other hand, NBA media writes why the NBA fans shouldn’t.

  • Markelle Fultz is an incredibly gifted young man. He is making a leap from the college ranks to the pros at the age of 19. And he is not joining any team. He is joining a fan base ravenous to get wins now.

    And he needs time.

Brown prefers to ease Fultz into the action

Injury? Reworking shot mechanics? Too many rookies on the starting lineup already? Too many players to develop simultaneously?  Whatever the root cause, head coach Brett Brown is bringing Fultz along slowly.

Some say he’s a bust already. The fact is that he is climbing to a very high place in the NBA. Brett Brown is consciously  easing Fultz into the NBA.

Remember the rush to success move for Jahlil Okafor? Let’s not repeat that, shall we? Fultz is not getting tossed into the deep end of the pool. Many top rated prospects get that “development” track in the NBA. The result is not a solid trend, but rather a prolonged period of struggle until it all comes together.
