Philadelphia’s surplus at point guard
Rose was signed as the bridge between the start of the season and the return to health of Isaiah Thomas, the former Celtics point guard currently rehabbing with a hip injury. In a recent interview, the Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue expressed the difficulties with the Cavaliers current lineup:
"“We still miss a true point guard,” Lue said. “It’s hard having to just try to mix and match and have Jeff play the point and D-Wade and different guys, but they’ve been doing a good job of handling and we know he’s going to be out for at least two weeks now so just keep continuing to plug away.”"
Surprising surplus
Surprisingly, the Philadelphia 76ers are sitting fat and happy at the point guard spot today. Thanks to the impressive performance of point guard Ben Simmons, the team has significant overlap of players who can slide into a point guard role. Alongside Ben Simmons, the team has the resilient point guard T.J. McConnell. Then there is veteran Jerryd Bayless. The team also boasts the 2017 top-pick Markelle Fultz. And there is seldom used but point guard capable play of Nik Stauskas.
Right now, the most logical player to part with at this juncture is Nik Stauskas. But will the Cavaliers consider him?
