Why Nik Stauskas to the Cavaliers won’t work?
The Cleveland Cavaliers are somewhat on the order of NBA royalty. And as such, they enter every NBA negotiation with a “special discount” philosophy. The Cavaliers have entered each such trade scenario with that “sweeten the pot” perspective. The most obvious was the blockbuster trade which sent Kyle Irving to the Boston Celtics in exchange for:
PG Isaiah Thomas (albeit with a hip injury)
SF Jae Crowder
PF Ante Zizic
2018 first round pick (Brooklyn)
2020 second round pick (Miami)
Cavaliers and Rose may part ways
As such, the Cavaliers push for the most value they can possibly get. And a one-for-one swap between the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers cannot be done until December 14, 2017 for Derrick Rose and Nik Stauskas. Nor do the Philadelphia 76ers have much incentive for doing so straight up. And there is the small matter of Derrick Rose deciding to retire before any such deal can take place.
So on the surface, this deal is dead before it takes life. No smoke, no fire. Ah well, nice try. Right?Let’s examine this one again.
