Philadelphia 76ers: J.J. Redick’s inconsistencies
By Owen Nelson
To start the season, Philadelphia 76ers shooting guard J.J. Redick has been inconsistent from three-point range
Throughout the first quarter of the season, Philadelphia 76ers free agent shooting guard J.J. Redick hasn’t been the crazily consistent shooter that we had all expected him to be. Now, don’t misunderstand me here. Redick can hit big-time shots. Most notably of which came against the Indiana Pacers. However, Redick has had a plethora of games where he’s non-existent from behind the arc.

So far, Redick is shooting his three-pointers at 38.9 percent — this is the fourth worst percentage of his 12-year career. Moreover, Redick is shooting a career-high 6.3 three-pointers a game. In addition to this, Redick’s overall field-goal percentage, 42.9 percent, is also the fourth worst of his career.
That was then…
For the Los Angeles Clippers last season, Redick only had two games where he failed to hit a three-point shot. This season, however, throughout 18 games, Redick has already had four games where he’s missed every shot from behind the arc. This includes a 0-8 from three performance against the Los Angeles Lakers, as well as a 0-5 from three performance against the Washington Wizards.
Conversely, Redick has come one short of the 76ers game-high in three-pointers made twice this season. He went 8-12 from three twice, against the Indiana Pacers and then the Orlando Magic., exploding for 31 points and 29 points, respectively.
Look for shooting to improve
Despite these abnormally low percentage, the Philadelphia 76ers shouldn’t worry. One reason being, even if Redick was shooting 20 percent from three on the season, teams will still closely guard just because of his reputation. Also, no matter how bad Redick is shooting on any given night, I always feel confident that the former Duke star will knock down his next shot.

Some may think this might just be a bad shooting year for Redick. However, after being in LA for the last four years, it was always going to take some time for Redick to adjust to life in Philadelphia. Don’t be surprised if Redick lights it up from three as the season progresses. After all, with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid in the lineup, he gets open looks all night long. The shots will soon begin to fall for Redick.
