Seemingly against all odds, the Philadelphia 76ers overcame injury, mistakes, turnovers, and playing on the road to walk out of Minnesota with a desperately needed victory.

The Philadelphia 76ers snapped a four-game losing streak after their 118-112 overtime win on the road against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night.

Philly, despite committing a season-high 26 turnovers and an off-shooting night from Ben Simmons, found a way to pull off a huge win against a tough Timberwolves’ squad. Joel Embiid registered a career-high in minutes (39) and tallied  a team-high 28 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists.

Philly also received a great contribution from J. J. Redick, who registered his second-consecutive 20 point game with 26 points and made all 11 of his free-throw attempts.

Minnesosota’s Jimmy Buckets leads Timberwolves

Minnesota’s Jimmy Butler led all scorers with 38 points off 15-of-33 shooting from the floor, with 14 of his points coming in the fourth quarter. Minnesota led by as many as nine points but lost control of the game toward the end of regulation and never led at any point in overtime. They also shot a dismal five-of-29 (17.2 percent) from the three-point range.

In addition to the play of Redick and Embiid, the Sixers also received 28 points off the bench, with Trevor Booker leading the way with 12.

Embiid Might Have Earned More Minutes

While Sixers’ Management has every right to be cautious with the minutes of Embiid, tonight he showed how tough he is mentally and that maybe they could be a little more lenient on the minute restrictions they have placed upon him.

Let’s face it, we all know that they are better when he is on the court.  As a prime example, he was a plus19 tonight against the Timberwolves.  You may recall Minnesota has an elite big man of their own in Karl-Anthony Towns. For him to be a game-time decision against a physical team like Minnesota and play as many minutes as he did, that has to be a great sign long-term.

Got him working day and night

Embiid also made the free throws to send the game into overtime.  Additionally, he scored seven of the Sixers 18 points in the extended period.  He did all this while possessing five fouls in the game. It’s simply more evidence of how mentally prepared he is to play.  He has no mental minutes restrictions, particularly when there is a chance to lead his team to a victory.

Next: Is it time to give Furkan Korkmaz an extended chance?

With all of this being said, the Philadelphia 76ers will host the Oklahoma City Thunder Friday in yet another prime time game on ESPN in Wells Fargo Center at 7 PM EST.
