SF/PF. 17. player. 64. Pick Analysis. Kentucky. Jarred Vanderbilt. Scouting Report

Since Jarred Vanderbilt hasn’t yet played a minute of basketball for Kentucky, drafting him this high could be considered a risk. Despite this, Vanderbilt is an extremely talented player, who if he was playing this season would be considered as a top-10 prospect. There’s a chance that Vanderbilt could return to the court before the end of the season, however.

Vanderbilt is one of those rare players who can do it all: score, pass and rebound. His height and playmaking abilities could make him a big threat in a couple of years time. The one area where Vanderbilt does struggle with, however, is his three-point shooting.

Given how Stanley Johnson has yet to take that next step in his career, the Pistons may want to go in a different direction. Johnson is by far the superior defender, but is abysmal on the offensive side of the ball. I can’t see a lineup where Vanderbilt and Johnson co-exists together.
