The Philadelphia 76ers and Eagles are set to be competitive teams for an extended period of time.
Most of you aren’t thinking about the Philadelphia 76ers‘ matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies tonight, and I can’t blame you. The Eagles just went supernova in a game nobody expected them to, putting up 38 points on the so-called best defense in the NFL while holding the Vikings to just seven points.
After all the agony and disappointment that came after the Carson Wentz injury, Philly is heading to the Super Bowl on the highest of notes. They’ll also be underdogs, something that shouldn’t bother them one bit.

With that said, this shouldn’t be a flash-in-the-pan kind of year for the Eagles. They have one of the league’s best quarterbacks in Wentz, as well as an elite defense that’s capable of carrying them when the offense struggles. Add in the fact that Wentz is only 25, and the Eagles’ competitive window is wide open moving forward.
The Sixers, in many ways, are on a similar path. They aren’t at a championship level like the Eagles, but have the youth, talent and two-way ability needed to quickly climb the standings over the next few seasons.
That talent, for both squads, is also really young. Wentz probably deserves MVP this season, even if his ACL tear with arbitrarily send it to Tom Brady. Barring injury, Joel Embiid will be the best center in the NBA for a long time. Ben Simmons also has GOAT point guard potential if he’s able to round out his skill set.
Competing for a Super Bowl every year is almost impossible, as the NFL has a certain level of variability that’s virtually unavoidable. The Sixers have to wait out Golden State’s reign of dominance as well, so nothing is certain at this point.
But, in general, the city of Philadelphia has two teams with the potential to compete for championships in the coming years. The Eagles are already nearing the mountaintop, and the Sixers are Processing in that direction. The timelines don’t match perfectly, but both teams should excite fans moving forward.

Not many sports cities understand disappointment, both recent and historical, like Philadelphia. Perhaps karma will fix that soon, because things are looking pretty dang good right now.
