But what about Lange?

The Philadelphia 76ers have a great track record of developing high-octane prospects.  But the full matter is that the future of the franchise is now arguably in the hands of a former assistant coach of Villanova. So let’s vet this guy a bit.  How good is he? Is he up to the responsibility?

The biography of Philadelphia 76ers player development coach Billy Lange is readily available on NBA.com.  But to keep you in the groove here, I’ll give you some highlights:

Billy lange passes with flying colors

Villanova Wildcats – Director of Basketball Operations (2001-2004)
US Naval Academy – Head Coach (2004-2011)
Villanova Wildcats – Associate Head Coach (2011-2013)
Philadelphia 76ers – Player Development Coach (2013-present)

So it’s a safe conclusion that Lange has had a hand, perhaps even a major contributor, to the incredible start of the careers to both Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. But he’s also gaining a solid reputation among the Philadelphia 76ers coaching staff.  His work ethic, his basketball knowledge, and his ability to translate that experience and knowledge to developing players’ full potential are his super-powers.  He is doing such a great job, that the organization gave him the opportunity to stretch his coaching acumen by heading the Utah Summer League Team.
