At some point in time, the luckiest sports fans find themselves in Anchorage Alaska on game day. Whatever the sport, the appeal of catching a game is worth experiencing. So here are my top ten choices for visitors to the great State of Alaska

The key to any fanbase is mingling with sports fans when out of town. And while many of the Philadelphia fans dwell within driving distance of the Licoln Financial Field or the Wells Fargo Center, some of us don’t.  In the grand scheme of things, we resign ourselves to the fact that we won’t witness the victory parade. We understand we must plan out any “live” events to include plenty of time off, flights, hotel stays, and car rentals.  And we even adapt to the mail order process of getting team gear.

But we draw the line when it comes down to cheering on our team while gathered at a local eatery.  No, when the time comes, the bar is raised.  We expect good service, tasty food, thirst-quenching drink, and an opportunity to see and cheer our teams on to victory. And now, having enjoyed an Eagles Super Bowl victory while out and about, I invite all my Philadelphia brothers and sisters to consider a trek to the great white north to get the true “fix” of wilderness and Philly sports teams in one swoop.

Philly fever

East coast passion is an anomaly to west coast sports fans. On the west coast, plays are cheered gently, bad plays are noticed silently, and there are no organized cheers during the game.  To an east coaster, it’s pretty bland.  And so, restaurants, bars, pubs, and eateries in Alaska cater to that “low volume” crowd.  Those same establishments struggle to serve fans from the east coast.

As a displaced “East-Coaster”, I can say without hesitation that our fans need a special type of place. Not everyone “gets” Philadelphia fans. We are loud in our cheers and persistant in our jeers.  So it falls upon me to help out the newcomers to our fair but wildly white and wintry state.  You can call upon your own experiences to rebut, but I don’t think you have truly lived until you catch an NFL game at 9 AM.   And while Philadelphia parties on to midnight, you sit comfortably at 8 p.m. AKT and enjoy a great 8 hours of sleep before work the next day. But where do we find our list of great grub?  Why here of course, as I will list the Top 10 sports bars in Anchorage Alaska
