7- Humpy’s Great Alaskan Ale House
Humpy’s Great Alaskan Ale House is the first of several restaurants which specialize in catering to the enormous volume of tourists seeking an Alaskan experience. As such, they have ample (but never enough) seating, some good food, some great drink, sports on the televised monitors, but a lack of that Alaskan intimacy which is the true calling card of the bona fide experience. They do, however, make up for it with that authentic feeling of pioneer days.
This is an establishment which in their own words is
"“Humpy’s is a place tailor-made for beer lovers, by beer lovers.”"
, and they do a fine job of it. Their online menu is unique in that is lists the beer offerings as well. The challenge is resetting your clock in Alaska, because Alaska time is four hours behind the East Coast.
Seat yourself, so be early!
Still, if you want to dine comfortably, arrive early to ensure you have seating for your entire party. And if you want a treat for your pallete, you simply MUST try the halibut tacos. Flaky fresh halibut is a taco filling you have no idea just how good it can be until you try it. And while it is not a Philly Cheesesteak, it’s tasty enough to distract you for a day or two.
Another feast is the King Crab. It’s pricey, but if you made it this far, you have to go all the way, right? And the crab legs are HUGE! Each plank of crab is the size of a hot dog. So you fill up quickly.
Find a spot, pull up a chair, find a tv, and chow down. You can find them at:
610 W 6th Ave
Anchorage, AK 99501
Be early. You don’t want to be looking for seating. It’s first come first serve, and you are on your own. Good luck!
