5- MVP Sports Deli

Okay, MVP Sports Deli is a sub shop who caters mostly to Chicago sports teams. But if you want good sports talk, and a menu inspired by pro sports, this is the place. The Deli is a small “hoagie” shop with a west-coast flair (the bright colored menu boards), and a mid west sports focus.   The owner is a tried and true Chicago fan, and if you want real, and I mean REAL, sports talk over the counter, he is your hookup. His name is Kevin, and he is the holder of an incredible wealth of knowledge of NFC North football.

The offerings are food – subs mainly. And they offer a cheesesteak sub. It’s Pastrami though. And if you are thinking philly cheesesteak, you will need to reorient your taste buds.  There is a solid offering of the Italian Stallion Super Bowl subs – a cold sub featuring ham, capicola, prosciutto, pepperoni, salami, provolone, lettuce tomato onion and two special sauces.

Be adventurous

Me? I prefer the MVP meatball. You have to call ahead to ensure they still have them in stock, but man-oh-man are they worth the extra effort.

The place even offers a 1-man 45 minute challenge for a 9 pound sub, and a 10 pound 2-man 45 minute challenge. You can enter and leave quietly, enter and have great conversation, or give advanced notice and become a legend in Alaska. And it all happens here:
