NCAA Tournament: Top 5 NBA prospects from the Midwest Region
By Tyler King
Wendell Carter Jr., PF/C, Duke
If not for Marvin Bagley III reclassifying, the Duke player most NBA scouts would be raving about is Wendell Carter Jr.
The freshman forward has played a totally different role than expected when he first committed, but he’s adjusted very well.
Carter and Bagley have a deadly two-man game within the Duke offense that takes advantage of whatever mismatch is available.
He has been a monster in the post whenever he’s been down there, but he’s also stretched his game out to the 3-point line midway through the season and has succeeded, making over 46 percent from beyond the arc.
Carter’s stats would look a lot better if Bagley wasn’t on the team and NBA teams will recognize that. He’s capable of putting up a double-double on any given night.
When both Bagley and Carter are on, Duke is a hard team to beat.
Carter will likely hear his name called in the back half of the top 10 and could be a name the Sixers target as a backup four.
Next up, we’ll take a look at one of the most talked about players in college basketball.
