This pick depends almost entirely on the direction Mitch Kupchak wants to take the Hornets. If they plan on moving past the Kemba Walker era in the near future, Sexton should be viewed as the best point guard left on the board.
Even with some sizable red flags, Sexton’s late-season explosion reminded scouts of his potential at the next level. He’s already an elite shot-maker who was responsible for shouldering the bulk of Alabama’s offense. His explosiveness and strong frame makes him tough to stop when playing downhill.
Sexton wasn’t the defensive savant that many expected coming into the season, but he still has solid tools on that end. If his effort is there — and when it’s there, it’s THERE — he should be a pesky defender at the point of attack.
