Williams took a big risk in returning to A&M for his sophomore season. He wasn’t put in the best position to succeed, while his lack of tangible growth had some draftniks questioning his draft stock late in the year. Then the NCAA Tournament happened.

A&M made a surprise run to the Sweet 16, dominating North Carolina behind an offensive explosion and Williams’ defensive exellence. At 6-10 with a 7-5 wingspan, Williams is a freak athlete with one of the highest rim protection ceilings in the draft. That alone should garner lottery consideration.

He’s also a capable rim-runner who can crash the glass and play above the rim. He didn’t add a reliable jumper — something many scouts were hoping to see — but his ability to impact things defensively should keep his stock trending upward.
