The Sixers’ biggest weakness in the playoffs was their lack of shot creation. Outside of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid — a non-shooter and an inefficient post-up scorer — T.J. McConnell was the only player capable of putting the ball on the floor and generating offense. That’s why they lost.
Gilgeous-Alexander is a potential solution. He’s a long, smooth playmaker with shifty handles and nice vision as a passer. He’d give Brett Brown a solid pick-and-roll piece, as well as somebody who can get dribble penetration and create his own shots.
Shooting is a concern for Shai, but he seems capable of knocking down spot-up jumpers at the very least — meaning he can play off of Simmons. He’d also give the Sixers another lengthy defender who can defend either guard spot at a high level.
