Roundtable: Thoughts on Bryan Colangelo’s alleged burner accounts
Trey Fox
The Philadelphia 76ers’ President of Basketball Operations, Bryan Colangelo, is certainly in the hot seat at this moment in time. According to The Ringer, Colangelo is suspected of owning and operating five burner accounts on twitter. These accounts not only defended Colangelo’s honor anonymously, they also sabotage and demean former and present Sixers players, which includes Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor, and Joel Embiid.
The aim of these accounts is clear: provide a scape goat for Colangelo to manipulate the narrative. If indeed these accounts do belong to Bryan Colangelo, the results could be career-ending for him. Put aside the way the national media will dissect this for a moment. The Sixers fanbase—and its players of course—as a collective will lose all trust and faith in him. Not only does this situation demonstrate a lack of judgement, but there is absolutely no justification for these actions ethically—let alone legally.
These actions, if committed by Colangelo, destroy his credibility and damage his reputation forever. They point to his insecurities, disloyal nature, and arrogance. To publicly challenge your team’s players is one thing, but to suggest they lied just to satisfy your ego is unacceptable. Also, threatening Joel Embiid—who is listed at 7-0 and weighing in at 250 pounds—is never a good idea. Just saying.
